12/6/2000The Supreme Court gives a clean chit to former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao upholding the trial court's order, and discharging him and former Union Minister K.K. Tewary from the 'St.Kitts forgery case'.
9/16/1932Ronald Ross, bacteriologist and member of Indian Medical Service, died in London. He had also received a Nobel Prize.
7/22/1702The ""English Company of Merchants"" and the old East India Company was named the United Company of Merchants of England Trading to the East Indies"". In1833, this name finally changed to East India Company.
10/29/1964Priceless and irreplaceable gems, including the famed 'Star of India' of 563.35 carats and 2.5 inches in diameter, were stolen from the American Museum of Natural History, New York, USA, in a daring burglary. An alarm system was discontinued years ago as was the all-night guard in the gem hall, both for reasons of economy. The jewels were uninsured due to high-priced premiums. There were other jewels too that were also robbed during this time.

12/12/1971The first aerial victory was when MiG-21FLs of No. 47 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104 over the Gulf of Kutch and this was followed by three more victories in quick succession on 17 December, when MiG-21FLs of No. 29 Squadron escorting HF-24 Maruts, shot down intercepting F-104s near Uttarlai in the Rajasthan desert in gun-missile encounters, while a third F-104, on an intruding mission, was shot down by another MiG 21FL of No.29 Squadron.
