10/1/1990Justice Ranganath Mishra appointed Chief Justice of Supreme Court.
1/15/1949General K. N. Kariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. He was the first Indian to reach to this post in Indian Army. In 1956, he was designated as Chief of the Army Staff - General, later Field Marshal. This event is commemoratively observed as Army Day.
10/17/1995BJP withdraws support to Mayavati Government in Uttar Pradesh. UP Governor Motilal Vohra accepts the resignation of Mayawati and her cabinet but asks her to continue as caretaker government. BJP's top brass takes the final decision to break with the BSP.
