8/22/1979Neelam Sanjeev Reddy, President of India, dissolves the sixth Lok Sabha, orders year-end general elections and asks Charan Singh to head a caretaker government.
5/26/1926Kankalta, freedom fighter, was born in Bargawadi village at Assam . She was shot when she tried to flur the Indian National Flag in Gopur, Assam.
9/15/1926Vande Mataram', a lengthy feature film produced by Vande Mataram Film Co, Bombay, was prohibited on September 15 by the Censor Board on the grounds that it was an underlying attack on the prestige of University Education in India. The film, however, was cleared on December 7 after deleting the objectionable scenes.
4/17/1799Srirangapatnam was surrounded by British Army in the fourth and last Mysore war which began in 1798. Tipu Sultan' was killed in the battle on 4th May. The East India Company announced the Seringapatanam Medal (1799).
