1/17/1905	Dattaraya Ramchandra Kaprekar was born at Dahanu near Bombay. He discovered the shortest possible routes to solve mathematical problems. In 1927, he won the wrangler R. P. Paranjpe Mathematical Prize for an Original Piece of work in mathematics. He discovered 'Kaprekar Constant' in 1946. It is the number ""6174"". The constant 6174 is arrived at and this number then generates itself into one set of numbers called ""self numbers"" that is also known by his name. Kaprekar passed away in 1988.

8/19/1977	Earthquake measuring 7.7-8.9 on the Richter Scale hits Indian Ocean. It is believed to be the strongest ever earthquake.
2/17/1670	Shivaji won SinghGarh Fort from Mughals. This victory was on the shoulders of Tanaji who was martyred in this attack. Shivaji proclaimed ""Garh Aalaa Pan Singh Gela"" which means that Fort was won but the Lion was lost.
9/27/1995	73 people died in a coal mine accident in Gaslitand in Dhanbad district, Bihar, when flood water leaked into the mine.
12/6/1962	India closes its consulates in Communist China.
