Historical Event on 5/31/1970

Indira Gandhi called for international help as the civil war in Bangladesh, or East Pakistan, had turned two million people into refugees. Many of them were suffering from cholera and smallpox. The authorities of West Pakistan refused to care for them, and India couldn't afford to.

12/26/1914Dr. Shushila Nair, social reformer, was born in village Kunjah, district Gunjra, Punjab (now Pakistan). She dedicated her life to serve Gandhiji and Gandhi Ashram and also performed the duties of Indian citizen by taking active participation in freedom movement.
12/26/1914Qutubu'd-din Aibak (1206-1210) was crowned at Lahore after the death of Muhammad of Ghuri. He was originally a slave of Turkestan. As he started his career as a slave, the dynasty founded by him in India is known as ""Slave Dynasty"". The construction of Qutabminar was started during his regime. Since he was very generous, the people called him ""Lakh Baksh"".
