9/4/1999Umesh Chandra, Assistant Inspector General of Police, shot dead by the PWG in Hyderabad.
5/20/1992Third developmental launch of ASLV. Stretched Rohini Satellite Series (SROSS-C). Launched by third developmental flight of ASLV-D3. This carried Gamma Ray astronomy and aeronomy payload.
4/3/1978Pandit Hridaynath Kunzru, social reformer, politician, passed away. He contributed greatly to public life, fighting against caste system, untouchability etc. He was closely affiliated to the 'Servants of India Society' with Ghokhaleji. He even declined to accept the ""Bharat Ratna"" award conferred on him.
11/29/1644The Massachusetts General Court issued a call for local pastors to learn the dialects of neighboring Indian tribes as an aid toward converting them to the Christian faith.

3/24/1855First long distance telegram message was opened between Agra and Calcutta at a distance of 1,300 km.
4/13/1919Jallianwala Baug massacre. The great Indian tragedy occured in Amritsar which claimed 389 lives and wounded 1,516 activitists fighting for Indian independence. Early in 1919, the Rowlatt Act (Black Act) was passed. This authorized the Government to imprison any person without any trial and conviction in a court of law. This furious act was under the guidence of cruel Brigedier General R. E. H. Dyer and his 50 men troop. Michael O' Dwyer was then the Governor of Punjab who naturally defended the action. This day is observed as Jallianwala Baug Day.
