Kolkata, Sep 18 (IANS) A large part of several south Bengal districts, including state capital Kolkata, is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall from Sunday evening onwards owing to a depression in the Bay of Bengal.

The rainy spell will continue till Tuesday, officials of the Kolkata Met department said. A yellow alert has also been sounded in Gangetic Bengal.

Fishermen have been asked not to venture out in the sea after Sunday evening due to the turbulent nature. Those who had already gone into the sea have been advised to return to the shore by Sunday.

Weather office sources said that a depression is likely form in the north-eastern part of Bay of Bengal with a direction towards the Gangetic plains.

Officials said the districts which are likely to witness heavy rain next week are East Midnapore, Nadia, Murshidabad, East Burdwan, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas. Kolkata and it's neighbouring districts will also witness sporadic rain.
