Shimla, May 5 (IANS) As many as 1,484 people were booked for violating curfew in Himachal, of which 1,305 were arrested even as 20 persons were booked in 10 cases of assault on police, Director General of Police (DGP) S.R. Mardi said on Tuesday.

At a meeting with Governor Bandaru Dattatreya here, Mardi apprised him about the law and order in the hill state amid the lockdown due to coronavirus scare.

He said action was taken against 465 persons under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 1,297 vehicles seized while strictly implementing the statewide curfew norms to contain the spread of coronavirus. A fine of Rs 28.45 lakh was imposed on the violators.

Also, 54 cases were registered against persons for rumour-mongering.

Mardi said the state's boundaries have been sealed and 24-hour patrolling done by the police. About 1,500 personnel from additional district police battalions and 862 home guards have been deployed.

He said 180 Himachal residents had visited the Tablighi Jamaat headquarters in Delhi in March and 1,107 people who came in contact with them were identified and quarantined.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of the police during COVID-19 situation in the state. He asked the Panchayati Raj Institutions, and health, anganwadi and police officials to work in coordination for effective implementation of the norms.
