Celebrated Indian American Musician, Composer, DJ, Karsh Kale returns to the Boston area to perform with fellow acclaimed musicians Max ZT and Jay Gandhi at OBERON in Cambridge on Thursday, March 1, 2018. 7:30 PM Doors. 8:00 PM Show. DJ Warp opens and supports.

Quoting former President Barack Obama from when Karsh Kale performed at the White House in 2013 for an Asian American Heritage Month event where Kale represented his Indian and American culture. "Karsh Kale mixes eclectic beats with the sounds of his heritage to make a sound that is distinctly his own. Barack Obama. The statement rings true about Kale, who was also described by Billboard Magazine as a "visionary composer and producer". Karsh Kale is widely known as a pioneer in the field of global music. His music career has gone through many roles over the past twenty years as he jumps between being a world renowned tabla player, drummer, DJ, remix artist, vocalist, multi instrumentalist, film composer, and producer as well as being a full time band leader. He has self-produced five internationally released solo albums for Six Degrees Records (Realize, Liberation, Broken English, Cinema, Up), and a collaborative album with Anoushka Shankar called Breathing Under Water.

Karsh Kale has also developed a reputation as a genre bending collaborator which has led him to work with some of the most renowned artists from around the globe including his musical hero Zakir Hussain, Ravi Shankar, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Anoushka Shankar, Lenny Kravitz, Bill Laswell, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Chebi Sabbah, DJ Logic, Bernie Worrell, Midival Punditz, and many others. Over the past decade, Karsh has been invited to perform at many prestigious venues and festivals around the globe and was even invited to perform at the White House where he was introduced by Former President Obama himself. He has become a noted composer in the world of film and his artistic presence can be felt on TV shows like the Cannes Award Winning show The Dewarists, as well as popular shows such as Coke Studio @ MTV and MTV Sound Trippin. In 2013 Kale curated a special live performance featuring musicians from across the NH7 Weekender Festival to present a grand finale set that left audiences wanting more at each edition of the four festivals. In 2016, he also curated the finale at each edition of Wanderlust Festival throughout the US.

Be it with his live ensembles, or as a world-renowned producer, Karsh Kale continues to push the boundaries of music in many directions as well as continues to be one the most sought after collaborators of his generation. For his long awaited Boston area return to OBERON on Thursday, March 1 2018, Kale will perform live on tabla and also DJ. He will be accompanied by acclaimed New York City based musicians Max ZT on santoor (dulcimer) and Jay Gandhi on Indian bansuri (flute). Max ZT also leads the band House of Waters and signed to Snarky Puppys Ground Up record label (House of Waters also play for Celebrity Series Boston Stave Session on March 21). Hailed as the "Jimi Hendrix of the hammered dulcimer by NPR, Max is a longtime student of Indian classical music and santoor pioneer, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. Jay Gandhis Indian bansuri playing has long been a fixture of the Brooklyn Raga Massive collective in NY and beyond. Gandhi is a teacher, performer and a senior student of legendary Indian classical flute maestro, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Boston local DJ and recent Chicago transplant DJ Warp will open the event and support.
